SUMMARY:Luncheon Discussion:  How Scotland is Preserving Charles Rennie Mackintosh Best Designs
DESCRIPTION:Chicago Scots is excited to host two of the world’s leading experts – Phil Long OBE FRSE\, CEO of National Trust for Scotland and Tony Jones CBE\, Former Director of the Glasgow School of Art President-emeritus of the Art Institute of Chicago– for an informative discussion on the National Trust of Scotland’s efforts to preserve the works of Mackintosh\, Scotland’s visionary architect\, designer & artist who revolutionized the Glasgow Style. \nGuests will be updated on the pioneering conservation efforts at Hill House in Helensburgh\, Scotland and how the “Hill House Box” in place until 2028\, is setting new standards for preservation being watched by heritage organizations around the world. \nGuests will also be briefed on the Trust’s most recent Mackintosh acquisition — The Mackintosh at the Willow in Glasgow – the last surviving original tea rooms designed by Mackintosh\, now saved for future generations thanks to the Trust’s oversight. \nChicago Scots is grateful to these Partner Organizations for assisting with Phil Long’s visit: \nChicago Architecture Center\nFrank Lloyd Wright Trust\nLandmarks Illinois\nOpenlands  \nPullman National Historical Park  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFeaturing Distinguished Speakers: \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPhil Long OBE FRSE joined the National Trust for Scotland as Chief Executive in 2020. From 2011 he was founding Director of V&A Dundee\, Scotland’s first design museum\, opened in 2018. TIME Magazine named V&A Dundee one of the world’s 100 greatest places in 2019. Philip was also Senior Curator at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art. His academic specialization is in historic and contemporary Scottish and\, wider British art and design\, on which he has curated many exhibitions and written widely. \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTony Jones CBE was Director of the Mackintosh-designed Glasgow School of Art\, Director the Royal College of Art\, and President of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. HM Queen Elizabeth conferred him the honour of Commander of the British Empire in 2000. He has also been awarded the Austrian Cross for services to education in Europe and has received six honorary doctorate degrees from leading arts universities in Britain\, Europe\, the U.S. and Asia.
