Internships

Since 2008 the Chicago Scots have served as a hosting partner for Entrepreneurial Scotland’s Saltire Scholar Internship Program which places students from Scottish Universities with organizations all over the world to gain cross-cultural experience. We are delighted, honored and proud to help our interns gain valuable experience in nonprofit management and bring confidence and best practice back to Scotland.

Intern Testimonials

Here’s what a couple of our former interns have to say about their experience with Chicago Scots:

Calvin Lees

“I am honoured to have been the 2022 Saltire Scholar. Living and working in another country has been an amazing and enlightening experience that is sure to shape my growth for years to come. I am so thankful to both Chicago Scots and Entrepreneurial Scotland enough for all they have done for me.

During my time here, I had the chance to work on the “return” of the Highland Games after COVID-19. I was particularly impressed with the scale of the Roscoe Company Mid-America Championship Massed Bands performance with 33 pipe bands, which was surprising to see despite being from Scotland myself.

Gus Noble has made a particular impression on me in my time here. Seeing how well respected he is, and his commitment to all his various causes is nothing short of incredible. I feel humbled to have worked for him during my time here. Culture and Care. It’s a mantra I won’t forget.”

“As the Intern for the 33rd Annual Scottish Festival and Highland Games… it’s fair to say I did not fully appreciate the amount of organization and planning this event entailed until I was in the midst of it all. It was a great success and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I look back at my time with fondness and can only thank the team for making me feel so welcome and taking me under their wing. The love and compassion within Chicago Scots is something I was totally in awe of, and I can only hope that I will be able to return one day in the not-so-distant future.”

“In 2018, I was lucky enough to embark on an internship that was invaluable, motivating, and empowering… I was welcomed with open arms by everyone and quickly became accustomed to the laughter and positivity that filled the halls.

Utilizing the core values of equality, education and enterprise, I have since been able to develop and maintain a variety of professional skills, creating great working relationships with a variety of colleagues and stakeholders.

Overall, this experience has helped shape who I am, personally and professionally, and I am very grateful to have worked for this amazing organization.”
