Two years ago Scott McAdam played the Kilted Classic on crutches with a broken right foot. He played a full 18 holes and hit every drive using his right foot for balance only. It was a great show of Scottish stoicism.
The tournament is one of the important ways Scott celebrates his Scottish heritage with his Dad, Uncle and cousin. He claims there’s no better way to honor his Scottish roots than hearing bagpipes drift across Cantigny’s beautiful course (and sipping whisky!) The Kilted Classic has become a family tradition and a day of pride.
It was Scott’s grandfather, Robert C. McAdam, who instilled the importance of heritage within the family’s ranks after tracing their genealogy to the Scottish Highlands and the Clan MacGregor.
Scott also likes golfing to support Chicago Scots important mission at Caledonia Senior Living & Memory Care. It means something personal to be helping Chicago Scots care for seniors. His grandmother lived at the Scottish Home in 2015 and Scott was a frequent visitor. He attributes Chicago Scots impeccable record of safety during the pandemic to great leadership and a committed staff who truly care.
That’s why he was happy to join Chicago Scots’ Reciprocal Membership Program with the National Trust for Scotland. It was an easy way to support the elder care mission while nurturing his cultural connection to Scotland. Chicago Scots is the only Saint Andrew Society in the U.S. to offer reciprocal membership with the National Trust. It’s an important investment in the Trust’s vital conservation and preservation work and that also speaks to Scott and his Dad, Scott Sr.
McAdam Landscaping has been caring for the gardens and grounds at Caledonia Senior Living for the past eight years. In addition to sponsoring events like the Kilted Classic and the Highland Games, they monitor Caledonia’s old-growth trees, maintain the grounds and expand its gardens. They designed and installed the Red Red Rose Garden, a tribute to Robert Burn’s famous poem, providing four seasons of beauty that residents and their families enjoy.
Golf occupies most of Scott’s free time. But he also enjoys painting and spending time with his wife, Brittany, and their two children, Harper, age five and Hudson, age three.
Scott McAdam Jr. has been a member of the Kilted Classic Golf Committee since 2019.
